this is soooo good, and it seems like it has the power to even make you a better mom, because you're not carrying responsibility that isn't yours anymore. What a great thing to pray and meditate on!

How rich is it to have available a diversity of parenting styles from whom we respect? However, competition over what is the "best" parenting style moves the question to the qualification of the giver and not the child. Arrogance at worst, insecurity at best. What's common and needful in all is love - the love of a mother for her child, given at the highest level Mom is able to give. That constant is the miracle that equates motherhood with sainthood and soothes the opinions of others. You are the one charged with the training of this new and wonderous life. You are the one who decides. Motherhood, like parenting in general, is not a pagent contest or a democracy - it is the love of a parent for the child as close to the model of God's love for us as we see anywhere.

Hi Lauren,
I work for MATTOO and was privileged to see you preform 'Girls Like Her' at the Victory Concert for Demand Change Project last May. I have not, cannot forget it. Your performance was the highlight of the entire concert for me!
I am currently helping plan Demand Change MATTOO 2012. Would you consider performing this piece at the event? We are hosting it the evening of May 6th. I would love to expose the men in the audience to the truth of your words. And in my experience 'story' strikes home faster then any facts or stats.
I look forward to hearing back from you !

Well said! I have had to realize that just because someone parents differently than me does not mean we can't be friends. It just means we're different. And as long as I don't think she has to do it my way and she doesn't think I have to do it my way, we're good.

The other thing I always say is "own" your parenting. If you do something differently than I do, fine. But own it and don't apologize for it. I don't think you're doing anything wrong unless YOU think you're doing something wrong. And if you're not listening to your inner voice, that instinct that you have as a mommy, than you probably are doing something wrong.

Great job here. I really enjoyed what you had to say. Keep going because you definitely bring a new voice to this subject. Not many people would say what youve said and still make it interesting. Well, at least Im interested. Cant wait to see more of this from you.

365? Sheesh.

Way to get into the Russian novels. I tried in high school and haven't been able to muster the brain energy to try again.

And be flexible with the dates - many times we do budget dates which is nothing more than putting the kids to bed, popping a bowl (or three) of popcorn, and watching a movie together.

Seasons - life is all about seasons. You will not stop writing, but what "writing" looks like may change in this upcoming season, at least for a time. The truth, though, is that this new experience is making you into a better and stronger person - a deeper well of experience. Your writing will surely flourish as a result, though perhaps not in ways you expect right now. In short, it's a roller coaster, but it's a good one. :)
